Roy
Monolithic Tea Cabinet
Utilizing the principles of contrast, layering, and line; design a non-traditional cabinet. 15 weeks
Research
My research looked into using contrast and line work to emphasize multiple layers, with the goal of finding a way to use contrast, layers, and lines to create transparency within my cabinet.
Concepts & Refinement
Initially Roy started as a choice between a wall mounted cabinet or a free standing unit.
The wall mounted cabinet felt more traditional so I pursued the free standing unit as it felt more sculptural and aligned more with my research.
Process
Roy is made entirely of solid ash and dyed black with India ink and bleached white.
Constructed with both traditional and contemporary techniques, parts are chiseled out and hand planed or milled with a bridgeport mill.
